Teacher of Music

Dates:                   Appointment: September 2019

Salary:                  MPS (inclusive of Fringe Allowance)

Contract type:   0.6 - 0.8

Contract term:   Permanent

Beaconsfield High School, an outstanding girls’ grammar school, has an opportunity for an energetic, highly motivated and caring Teacher of Music with vision and ambition to inspire and enthuse students to enhance their interest in Music.  Our students all want to learn and are rapid learners – a dream come true!

Music has a central role at Beaconsfield High School. Take-up of the subject at GCSE and A Level is very strong; pupils win places in national ensembles and the School has strong links with other musical organisations. There is an outstanding team of Peripatetic Music Teachers, some of whom are ABRSM Examiners, and all of whom are outstanding practitioners and very committed to the Department.  The successful candidate will have the opportunity to help build on this success.

The role is designed to suit the talents and experience of the successful applicant. The successful candidate will teach across Key Stage 3, 4 & 5; experience of working in all key stages is therefore essential.  The exam board is Edexcel for both GCSE and A-Level and the successful applicant must be confident with teaching A Level Composition. The person appointed will be expected to play a full and positive part in the life of the school.  Therefore an ability and willingness to become involved in, and contribute to, the extra-curricular life of the school is expected. Ensemble rehearsals take place both at lunchtime and after school (finishing time of 4:45) and due to school musicals and the music tour, there may be an occasional weekend required.

As well as awarding QTS through Astra’s weekly core training programme, the SCITT also works with Goldsmiths, University of London for the optional PGCE ‘top up’ qualification, worth 60 Masters credits.

Since 2013, the Astra partnership has considerable experience of training teachers and recognises and values the enthusiastic contribution that they make to our school communities.  Employment rates for trainees are high and outcomes and completion rates are also well above national benchmarking figures.  Expert staff in our schools share their knowledge and good practice to ensure that trainees are well supported to develop into good and outstanding teachers. We also aim to ensure the right trainee is matched to the right school for both the main and second teaching placements.
